Kindergarten helps children to prepare for elementary school. Children attend classes for three hours a day.
Elementary school
The purpose of elementary schools is to provide children with basic education to help them
become sound citizens of the country. Schools run for over 220 days per year with Korean,
math, music, arts, science, physical education,and practical skills making up the curriculum.
If a foreigner wishes to enter or transfer his/her child to a Korean school, the child's Certificate
of Registration issued by the head of the Immigration Office must be submitted to the school.
Middle and high school
If a foreigner wishes to enroll his or her child in or to transfer the child to a high school,
alien registration must be completed. Then, the parent must apply to the Municipal Education Office.
The child's school and grade is decided according to the child's total previous educational experience.
If a parent wishes to enroll his/her child in a school other than a regular high school,
she/he can apply directly to the school.
