What is Danjeonh?
Danjeon is a form of meditation rooted in traditional Korean practice, based on breathing designed to enhance one's level of psychic energy.

Practicing danjeon improves health and maximizes the self-healing power of the human body.

All living creatures breathe. And it is no doubt that breathing is a very important activity for retaining life. Danjeon breathing gathers energy called "Gi"(in the Danjeon Beathing Theory) into the body and purifies it through breathing. There is strong, weak, bright, or dark type of "Gi" in every human body. If the "Gi" of your body is strong, you are healthy and energetic. Otherwise, you are weak and susceptible to disease. If it is bright, your mind is bright and healthy. If it is dark, you will be wrapped with evil thoughts and might have difficulty to concentrate. Danjeon implies a place where "Gi" gathers, and controls the energy that rests in the body. It can be referred to as the heart and brain of "Gi". Danjeon is located roughly in the lower part of the abdomen.

The four types of breathing are shallow breathing, deep breathing, jisik (hold breathing) and josik (natural breathing). Generally speaking, children breathe long and deep, while old people breathe short and shallow. Therefore breathing has a profound effect upon our physical and mental state. For example, people breathe long and deep to relieve themselves of their stress, whenever they feel it. That means people are unconsciously controlling their mental state through breathing.

A reason for practicing breathing exercise is that people are naturally able to control their emotional state through breathing, which means you can always keep your body and mind easy and stable through proper breathing. The josik method keeps your mind calm through natural breathing. The breathing method uses equal time for inhaling and exhaling, or a longer exhaling time. This method is used for meditation. The jisik method means holding breathe to collect the energy massively. In the practice of this method, you hold your breath after inhaling or exhaling, which places your body under high pressure. But this method can be dangerous without the help of a certificate and specialized trainer. Danjeon breathing strengthens danjeon and lets energy flow in the body. Consequently it gives "vital power" to the whole body. This breathing also changes iron ore into iron or pure iron. The most important thing in this procedure is to keep your mind clear and focus it completely on your body.
