City buses and city express buses are numbered according to their routes. The bus system is so comprehensive that
it may be used to get to almost anywhere in the city. Refer to the publication "Seoul Bus Routes" available
at any Seoul Global Center or visit http:/english.seoul.go.kr/residents/transport/trans_05bus_01.html
Since the bus signs are written only in Korean, finding the right bus can be quite confusing for the first-time visitor.
Hotel staff will be able to assist in choosing the correct bus and stop for your destination.
Fares can be paid by cash or with T-Money. T-Money card vendors have a T-Money signboard.
The cards are available for purchase at vendor kiosks selling bus tickets near most city bus stops, subway stations,
and GS25 or Family Mart convenience stores.
By using T-Money, card users can get a 100 won discount on the basic fare versus the cash fare.
The card also gives fare discounts for those using the card when transferring to another means of mass transportation.
Subway and bus fares are based on the total distance traveled. T-Money cards have a zero balance at the time of purchase.
Therefore, card purchasers must pay a certain amount to pay for the card itself and to establish a balance.
T-Money cards can be recharged for amounts ranging from 1000 won to 90,000 won.
To use your T-Money card, place the card on the sensor located to the right of each subway turnstile or the bus
fare terminal, and enter. The display will tell you how much has been deducted from your card as well as your
current balance. When getting off the subway or bus, again place the card on the sensor for any additional fare.
If you don't touch the sensor when disembarking, you may have to pay a full fare without any discount for transfers
or you may be charged the longest distance fare as a penalty, so don't forget!
To stop the bus at your destination, push one of the stop buttons located along the length of the bus.
City buses, called "lban bus" in Korean, stop frequently and take you nearest
your destination. The fares for the city buses are 900 won for bus
cards and 1,000 won for cash.
City express buses, called "chhwasok bus" in Korean, stop less frequently, and thus, travel
throughout congested areas faster. The fares for the city express buses are 1,300 won T-Money,
and 1,400 won for cash. The new deluxe city express bus fares are 1,400 won forT-Money, and 1,500 won for cash.
